Formed in 1967, the group originally included guitarist and lead vocalist Joe Matt, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Blair, keyboardist Neal Doughty and drummer Alan Gratzer. After relocating in 2001, Gratzer realized he missed interacting with children and gave the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters a call.
